Learn to Skydive Solo in California

What is the Accelerated Freefall (AFF) Program?

The Accelerated Freefall (AFF) program is the most comprehensive and advanced method for learning to skydive solo, endorsed by the United States Parachute Association (USPA). This program not only trains you to jump with a parachute system designed for solo use but also equips you with the skills to earn your skydiving license, allowing you to make independent solo jumps or join licensed friends for group skydives.

About the AFF Course

The AFF program begins with a 6-8 hour ground training session, covering essential skills and safety procedures for solo skydiving. Upon completing this foundational training, you’ll make your first jump using your own equipment, assisted by two USPA-certified AFF instructors who will guide you every step of the way. When conditions are favorable, you can expect to make your first jump on the same day as your ground training.

AFF Training Progression

The AFF course is divided into two phases:

What to Expect on Your First Jump

Your first AFF jump is an unforgettable thrill! After climbing to 14,000 feet, you’ll exit the plane alongside two experienced USPA Certified AFF instructors, who will securely hold onto your harness to guide you through this exhilarating experience. As you freefall, you’ll reach speeds exceeding 120 miles per hour while focusing on essential tasks like maintaining body position, reading your altimeter, and practicing parachute deployment techniques.

Once you deploy your parachute, you’ll experience approximately five minutes of peaceful canopy flight, allowing you to steer your parachute toward the landing area. For added assurance, you’ll be equipped with a radio that provides backup guidance from your instructors, ensuring a smooth and safe landing. After your jump, you’ll receive a First Jump Certificate, a logbook entry, and a detailed debriefing with your instructors. With each new level, you’ll continue to build your skills and confidence, savoring the incredible satisfaction of mastering solo skydiving.
