First Team Social
The first-annual First-Team Social got off to a raring
start November 20th. A day of optional jumping brought out a throng of young
4-way enthusiasts—registrants and non-registrants alike. Coaches got
groups in the air, giving everyone a taste of what the next day would bring.
After a busy day of jumping, everyone gathered for the team-building seminar,
led by Lou Ascione, Melanie Curtis, Erin Murphy, and DZO, John Hamilton.
Among the topics discussed were how to build a team, what to look for in teammates,
the value of coaching, the financial aspects of 4-way training, and so on—basically,
everything you need to know to get a 4-way team started, and the contact info
for everyone in the room looking to do the same thing.

The next morning brought the shock of Southern California—SNOW.
The Ortegas were white. No kidding. Of course that didn’t keep
us away. At 8am, everyone showed up, hoping through the sleet that there
would be jumping to be had that day. By 9:30am, we called it and put a reschedule
date on the calendar...

With blue skies, 75 degrees, and no snow to be seen, the
jumping part of the First-Team Social got off the ground December 11th on load
one. Everyone met bright and early for a group stretch before breaking up
into teams for the first jumps of the day. With Lou, Mel, and Erin coaching,
participants took advantage, listening closely and working hard to make every
jump a success. Good, bad, and ugly, Mel, Lou, and Erin debriefed the videos
as everyone squeezed into team room two to get in on the info. After a full
day of jumping, mingling, learning, and laughing, the First-Team social successfully
recruited a bunch of new members to the 4-way addiction. Now, on to team
training! Great job everyone!
